Ayat al-Kursi

×1once

A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajim.
I take refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed. Allah — there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. Everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to Him. Who could possibly intercede with Him without His permission? He knows what lies before His creation and what lies behind them, while they grasp nothing of His knowledge except what He allows. His authority extends over the heavens and the earth, and guarding them does not tire Him. He is the Most High, the Supreme. (Qur'an 2:255)
Virtue: Known as Ayat al-Kursi, the greatest verse in the Qur'an. The Prophet ﷺ taught that whoever recites it in the morning remains under Allah's protection until evening.

One verse lays out the full scope of Allah's power and knowledge. Reciting it first thing anchors everything that follows before the day gets a chance to compete for your attention.

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad, Allahus-Samad, lam yalid wa lam yulad, wa lam yakul-lahu kufuwan ahad.
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Qul a'udhu birabbil-falaq, min sharri ma khalaq, wa min sharri ghasiqin idha waqab, wa min sharrin-naffathati fil-'uqad, wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad.
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Qul a'udhu birabbin-nas, malikin-nas, ilahin-nas, min sharril-waswasil-khannas, alladhi yuwaswisu fi sudurin-nas, minal-jinnati wan-nas.
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Say: He is Allah, the One — Allah, the Self-Sufficient Master whom all depend on. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and nothing is comparable to Him. (Surah al-Ikhlas)

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the harm of what He created, from the darkness of night when it settles in, from those who blow on knots, and from an envier when he envies. (Surah al-Falaq)

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of people, the King of people, the God of people, from the evil whisper of the retreating whisperer who whispers into the hearts of people, from among the jinn and mankind. (Surah an-Nas)
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ described these three short surahs as sufficient protection on their own when recited morning and evening.

Together they cover the full range of harm — from within your own soul, from the unseen world, and from other people — recited as one seal over the day.

Sayyid al-Istighfar

×1once

O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I hold to Your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge the blessings You have given me, and I acknowledge my sin — so forgive me, for none forgives sin except You.
Virtue: Called the "master of seeking forgiveness." The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever recites it during the day with full conviction and dies before evening is among the people of Paradise, and likewise for the night.

Every phrase does something different — naming Allah as Lord, admitting servitude, owning up to failure, and asking forgiveness in the same breath as gratitude. A complete reset in five lines.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahummastur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahummahfazni mim bayni yadayya, wa min khalfi, wa 'an yamini, wa 'an shimali, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.
O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this life and the next. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my faith, my worldly life, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, cover my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, guard me from in front of me, behind me, my right, my left, and above me — and I seek refuge in Your greatness from being struck down from beneath me.
Virtue: A comprehensive dua the Prophet ﷺ is reported to have rarely left out, covering every direction a person can be reached from.

It moves outward — faith, then daily life, then family and wealth — before covering every physical direction, including the one most people never think to guard.

Protection From the Four Evils

×1once

Allahumma fatiras-samawati wal-ard, 'alimal-ghaybi wash-shahadah, Rabba kulli shay'iw-wa malikah, ash-hadu al-la ilaha illa anta, a'udhu bika min sharri nafsi, wa min sharrish-shaytani wa shirkih, wa an aqtarifa 'ala nafsi su'an aw ajurrahu ila muslim.
O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord and Sovereign of all things — I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil within myself, from the evil of Satan and his incitement toward associating partners with You, and from bringing harm on myself or drawing it toward another Muslim.
Virtue: A morning and evening dua the Prophet ﷺ specifically instructed his companions to hold onto.

The four evils named here are internal, not external — your own self, Satan's suggestion, and the harm you might cause yourself or someone else.

Entrust All Your Matters to Allah

×1once

O Ever-Living, O Sustainer of all — by Your mercy I seek help. Set right all of my affairs, and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ taught this to his daughter Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) to say morning and evening.

A short surrender — everything, all at once, handed over, with the specific request not to be left to manage alone even for a moment.

O Allah, whatever blessing has reached me or any of Your creation this morning is from You alone, with no partner. All praise and all thanks belong to You.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever says this has fulfilled their obligation to give thanks for that day.

One sentence settles the question of where anything good actually comes from — and counts as complete gratitude for the day on its own.

Renew Your Tawhid

×1once

Asbahna 'ala fitratil-Islam, wa 'ala kalimatil-ikhlas, wa 'ala dini nabiyyina Muhammad, wa 'ala millati abina Ibrahima hanifam-musliman wa ma kana minal-mushrikin.
We have entered the morning upon the natural way of Islam, upon the word of sincere devotion, upon the religion of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and upon the path of our father Ibrahim, who turned away from all falsehood, submitted to Allah, and was never among those who associated partners with Him.
Virtue: Recited to open the day by re-affirming the same faith Ibrahim (peace be upon him) stood on.

Belief isn't assumed to just sit there unattended — this renews it each morning, tracing a line back through the Prophet ﷺ to Ibrahim.

Start the Evening by Praising Allah

×3times

Amsaytu uthnī ʿalayka ḥamdā, wa ash-hadu al-lā ilāha illāl-llāh.
I have entered the evening praising You, and I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah.
Dhikr 10 / 20

Ask Allah for a Good Day

×1once

Asbahna wa asbahal-mulku lillah, wal-hamdu lillah, la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa Huwa 'ala kulli shay'in Qadir, Rabbi as'aluka khayra ma fi hadhal-yawmi wa khayra ma ba'dah, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma fi hadhal-yawmi wa sharri ma ba'dah, Rabbi a'udhu bika minal-kasali wa su'il-kibar, Rabbi a'udhu bika min 'adhabin fin-nari wa 'adhabin fil-qabr.
We have entered the morning, and with it all sovereignty belongs to Allah. All praise is for Allah. There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner — dominion and praise belong to Him, and He has power over all things. My Lord, I ask You for the good in this day and the good that follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil in this day and the evil that follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the weakness of old age. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave.
Virtue: One of the most complete morning duas — opening with sovereignty belonging to Allah and closing with refuge from the two punishments people fear most.

It works in layers: today, then what follows it; the good, then the evil; the near fear and the far one. Nothing about the day is left outside the request.
Dhikr 11 / 20

Ask Allah to Bless Your Day

×1once

Asbahna wa asbahal-mulku lillahi Rabbil-'alamin, Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadhal-yawm, fathahu wa nasrahu wa nurahu wa barakatahu wa hudah, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma fihi wa sharri ma ba'dah.
We have entered the morning, and with it all sovereignty belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. O Allah, I ask You for the good of this day: its opening, its help, its light, its blessing, and its guidance — and I seek refuge in You from the evil in it and the evil that follows it.
Virtue: A shorter companion to the previous dua, spelling out exactly what "a good day" consists of.

Five specific things are asked for, not a vague good day — its opening, support, clarity, blessing, and direction.
Dhikr 12 / 20

Get Yourself Freed From the Hellfire

×4times

O Allah, I have entered the morning and call You to witness, along with the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels, and all of Your creation, that You are Allah — there is no god but You alone, with no partner — and that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever says this four times in the morning, Allah frees a part of them from the Fire.

A declaration made on the record — the Throne-bearers, the angels, and all creation are called as witnesses to the same two truths every Muslim carries.

Allahumma 'afini fi badani, Allahumma 'afini fi sam'i, Allahumma 'afini fi basari, la ilaha illa anta, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-kufri wal-faqr, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-qabr, la ilaha illa anta.
O Allah, grant me well-being in my body. O Allah, grant me well-being in my hearing. O Allah, grant me well-being in my sight. There is no god but You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave. There is no god but You.
Virtue: Recited three times, this was among the Prophet's ﷺ own daily supplications.

Health is named specifically — body, hearing, sight — then paired with protection from the two things that threaten a person's faith and dignity most.
Dhikr 14 / 20

Allah Will Suffice You in Everything

×7times

Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. I place my trust in Him alone, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever recites this seven times, morning and evening, Allah will be sufficient for them in whatever concerns them.

Short enough to repeat seven times without it becoming rote — each repetition is a small renewal of the same trust.

Radeetu billahi Rabba, wa bil-Islami dina, wa bi-Muhammadin Nabiyya.
I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad ﷺ as my Prophet.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever says this three times, Allah is pleased with them on the Day of Judgment.

Three acceptances in one line — the One worshipped, the way of life, and the guide. Contentment stated plainly, rather than assumed.
Dhikr 16 / 20

Protect Yourself From All Harm

×3times

Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'as-mihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim.
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever recites this three times in the morning and three in the evening will not be harmed by anything unexpectedly until the next remembrance.

Its coverage runs out at the next sunrise or sunset — exactly why it's repeated twice a day rather than said once and left.
Dhikr 17 / 20

Get Your Sins Forgiven

×100times

Subhanallahi wa bihamdih.
Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Him.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever recites this a hundred times in a day will have their sins forgiven, even if as much as the foam of the sea.

The shortest dhikr in this chapter, said the most times — repetition, not length, is what the hundred count is really asking for.
Dhikr 18 / 20

An Unparalleled Reward

×100times

There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. Dominion and praise belong to Him, and He has power over all things.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever says this a hundred times in a day earns the reward of freeing ten slaves, a hundred good deeds recorded, a hundred sins erased, and protection from Satan until evening.

One sentence, four rewards attached to it — recorded as one of the heaviest phrases for its length in the entire tradition.
Dhikr 19 / 20

Tasbih, Tahmid and Takbir

×100times

Subhanallah, alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar.
Glory be to Allah. All praise is due to Allah. Allah is the Greatest.
Virtue: A combination of the three phrases the Prophet ﷺ described as more beloved to him than everything the sun rises upon.

Three separate declarations — of Allah's perfection, of gratitude, and of His greatness — said together as a set, a hundred times over.

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim — You are truly Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim — You are truly Praiseworthy and Glorious.
Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever sends blessings upon him ten times in the morning and ten in the evening will receive his intercession on the Day of Judgment.

The one dua in this chapter directed toward someone other than Allah directly — asking Allah to honor the Prophet ﷺ, in the same words used within the daily prayers.
